Building Futures, Honoring Innovation: Celebrating Tomorrow’s Leaders at MARE Summit 2024

The MARE Summit 2024 is pleased to announce its inaugural MARE Summit’s Student Project Awards 2024.

As an initial run, this year’s Awards will be granted in the following categories:

  • The Student Thesis Project Award for Innovation
  • The Student Thesis Project Award for Social and Environmental Sustainability

One separate award will be presented on the award night to the category winners.

Submissions are invited from the Year 2 Masters students in both the M. Arch (Architecture and Urban Design) and the M. Eng (Civil and Structural Engineering), from 2022 – 2023.

Participation is free.

Award process

Interested students are to submit their nomination by 15 May 2024 at 11:59pm through the online form on:

Timelines

• Opening of Submissions: 10 May 2024

• Closing of Submissions: 15 May 2024

• Presentations and Judging: 22nd May 2024 – 23rd May 2024

• Awards Ceremony: 23rd May 2024

Judging criteria

Jury decisions will be guided by a uniform set of ‘Core Criteria’.

The Student Thesis Project Award for innovation

• Innovation, intelligent design, and originality, capacity to delight and inspire

• Conceptual strength and ambition: underlying principles, values, ideas and philosophy of the project;

• Public and cultural benefits: the amenity of the project and contribution to the public realm or environment;

• Relationship to context: concepts engaged with new and pre-existing conditions;

• Response to client and user needs: functional performance in terms of the brief, serving the client or users and the community;

The Student Thesis Project Award for innovation

• Environmental sensitivity and sustainability

• Cultural and social awareness

• Conceptual strength and ambition: underlying principles, values, ideas and philosophy of the project;

• Public and cultural benefits: the amenity of the project and its conceptual contribution to the public realm or environment;

• Relationship to context: concepts engaged with new and pre-existing conditions;

• Response to client and user needs: functional performance in terms of the brief, serving the client or users and the community;


Juries may select to consider submitted projects in a category other than the category the project was originally entered in, subject to the following:

  • The project must meet the entry requirements of the other category;
  • The project must not be considered in more categories than it was originally entered in, unless one or both of the categories has 5 or less eligible entries.

Terms & Conditions

PUBLICATION MATERIAL USE OF IMAGES IN PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL

The projects submitted will be published on the MARE Summit website. The A0 posters of these projects will be exhibited during an exhibition, open to the public, to accompany the judging process and the award ceremony.

Additional drawings and complementary information from participants may be requested.

USE OF IMAGES IN PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL

MARE Summit reserves the right to make use of images of winning projects (both in print and digital media) for editorial and promotional material in connection with these Awards.

Entrants must provide accurate entry information.
