Zachary Rizzo is a structural engineer at Innovative Architectural Structures (IAS).

While pursuing a Master’s in Structural Engineering, Zach conducted research focused on addressing challenges on the Island of Gozo. His thesis project centered on the industrial area of Xewkija, aiming to revitalize the craft industry by creating a public space that blends new and old technologies.

The project featured a steel structure connecting interior workshops to a garden, with a green roof accessible from within and providing a public link. The main structural emphasis included 6.5m deep trusses supported by core structures functioning as lift/stair shafts and light wells. Quick hand calculations and structural programs were employed for analysis, considering vertical, wind, and seismic loading.
