Biography
Jonathan Buttigieg is currently a Director and the Chief Executive Officer of Vassallo Builders Limited, a position which he has occupied since 2018. He began his career with Vassallo Builders in 1993 and has held a number of Directorships in Vassallo Group related companies including Building Consultancy Services Ltd, Makeezi Ltd, Powereezi Ltd and is a member of the Vassallo Group Strategy Board. He has also served as a Director on the Boards of the Building Construction Authority and MIDI plc respectively. He has lead the interests of Vassallo Builders in several consortiums including MI Investments for the Tigne Point Development, BEV Consortium for the Malta North MBT Plant, JV Haase Vassallo for the Sant Antnin MBT Plant and Rehabilitation of the Maghtab Landfill, and RMV Joint Venture for the Bank of Valletta Corporate Headquarters amongst others, with project values totalling in excess of €250 million.
Jonathan graduated from the University of Toronto as a Civil Engineer in 1992 and obtained his Masters Degree in Construction Management from the University of Bath in 1999. His respective dissertations were “Steel Box Girder Practice in Ontario” and “A Methodology to Create a Cost Control System for Construction Firms”. During his studies at the University of Toronto, he took part in various intramural sports activities such as Canadian Football, Rugby and coached Little League Baseball on a volunteer basis. Between 2002 and 2004, he was the Treasurer of the Step by Step Foundation, a philanthropic organisation aimed at helping children with special needs. Jonathan obtained his Private Pilot’s License in 2008 and his Yachtmaster Certificate in 2012 .
